Professor Valery G. Artyukhov is recognized expert in biophysics, biochemistry and physic-chemical biology.

The main direction of the scientific school founded by V.G. Artyukhov is function of protein systems, supramolecular complexes (biomembranes) and cells in various microenvironments. The main scientific results are as follows:

• Studies of regulations, peculiarities and kinetics of UV-induced structural and functional changes of hemoglobin, cytochrome c, catalase, peroxydase, serum albumin, lactate dehydrogenase, acetylcholinesterase, Na,K-ATPase, superoxide dismutase, ceruloplasmin and the proteins of the compliment system of blood serum.
• Mathematical models of oxygenation of the human hemoglobin (intact and modified by UV-radiation in the presence of oxides of nitrogen and carbon.
• Physico-chemical mechanisms of modification of structural & functional state of human immunocompetent cells under UV-radiation and generation of active oxygen forms in the presence of immunomodulators/

V.G. Artyukhov is a member of the editorial board of "Biophysics" (orig. Biofizika, ISSN: 0006-3509) and "Radiation biology and radioecology (orig. "Radiatsionnaya biologiya. Radioekologiya", ISSN: 0869-8031) journals; the chief editor of the journal "Proceedings of Voronezh State University: Series Chemistry. Biology. Pharmacy".
